Holy Week and Easter 2010

The Cathedral Choir celebrated Palm Sunday in the usual way with Weelkes’  rousing “Hosanna to the Son of David” sung under the Norman arch followed by a plainsong procession through the city centre, past the town hall and into the cathedral through the main west doors.

Services during Holy Week at which the choir sang included:

2nd April – Good Friday Liturgy (Sanders Reproaches, Allegri Miserere)
3rd April –  Easter Vigil and confirmation (Dove Missa Brevis)
4th April –  Easter Day Eucharist (Haydn Little Organ Mass, Now the Green Blade Riseth)

Boys sing BBC Daily Service – 22nd March 2010

On Monday morning, 22nd March 2010, the choristers sang live on BBC Radio 4 LW for the Daily Service from Emmanuel Church, Didsbury.

Chester layclerk wins photography competition

Chester Alto, Francis Hills recently won the first prize of £200 in a photography competition organised by Rayburn Tours. Rayburn recently took the cathedral choir to France and Belgium in the October half term and held a competition for the best photos of groups or individuals enjoying their time on tour. The winning image is shown below of the iconic Eiffel Tower taken with an ultra-wide angle 10mm lens attached to a Nikon D90.
