The Cathedral Choir celebrated Palm Sunday in the usual way with Weelkes’ rousing “Hosanna to the Son of David” sung under the Norman arch followed by a plainsong procession through the city centre, past the town hall and into the cathedral through the main west doors.
Services during Holy Week at which the choir sang included:
2nd April – Good Friday Liturgy (Sanders Reproaches, Allegri Miserere)
3rd April – Easter Vigil and confirmation (Dove Missa Brevis)
4th April – Easter Day Eucharist (Haydn Little Organ Mass, Now the Green Blade Riseth)
Chester Alto, Francis Hills recently won the first prize of £200 in a photography competition organised by Rayburn Tours. Rayburn recently took the cathedral choir to France and Belgium in the October half term and held a competition for the best photos of groups or individuals enjoying their time on tour. The winning image is shown below of the iconic Eiffel Tower taken with an ultra-wide angle 10mm lens attached to a Nikon D90.
